Petrena Gail Shaw - Sculptor

Petrena Shaw is a sculptor and lives and works in her new studio in the Byron Bay Hinterland. In the early eighties Petrena started her interest in the arts designing and making jewellery as well as Batik fabric designs. She was also involved in casting and reproducing artefacts and antiques from the British Museum and the Louvre in a patented product calledTemstone.

 

After attending the Brisbane Institute of Art in the early nineties, Petrena became interested in painting and sculpting, specialising in Bronze sculptures. Since then Petrena has studied sculpture with many well renowned sculptors and spent 5 years with Tom Bass from 2004 to 2009 studying life drawing and figurative sculpture. Petrena also studied Mold Making and Casting Techniques and was involved in this process in her own Foundry.  

 

Since the early nineties Petrena has produced many sculptures in both Bronze and Ciment Fondu and her collection has been represented in various galleries around Australia and the US. Petrena also exhibited with the Sydney Sculpture Society for many years. Petrena is currently working on a new body of work sculpting in clay and wax creating both Bronze and Ciment Fondu sculptures.
